• If you are single, ensure your asset worth is not more than R1 372 800. 
• If you are married, your combined asset worth is not more than R2 745 600.
• For a single individual, the yearly income should not exceed R96 840.
• If you are married, your annual income of combined both should not exceed the limit of R193 680.

How To Apply For SASSA Disability Grant

After completing the medical documents for your disability grant, here is the step-by-step guide for applying for the SASSA disability grant.

• First of all, you have to have a medical examination of your disability done by a professional doctor appointed by the state.
• The SASSA team will review the medical documents and check the eligibility criteria that you are eligible for a permanent or temporary disability grant.
• When SASSA accepts your medical documents and confirms that you are disabled in reality, they will check for the asset and income threshold to determine your eligibility.
• There are two ways to apply for the SASSA disability grant. You can apply online via the official portal or offline at the nearest SASSA office.
• Apply Online: If you plan to apply online, visit the SASSA official portal. Search for the disability grant and click on it. You will be redirected to the form. Please fill out the form, attach the medical documents, and submit it.
• Apply Offline Via SASSA Office: Visit the SASSA nearest office. Ask the representative if you want to apply for a disability grant. They will provide a form, fill it, and submit it to the SASSA agent with medical documents.
• If you plan to apply via the SASSA office but can’t go to the office due to disability issues. In such situations, you can ask for help from your family members or friends to apply for you on your behalf.

How To Check SASSA Disability Grant

When you apply for the disability grant, here is how you can check the status of your application.

• Visit the SASSA official portal.
• Enter your South Africa ID and phone number.
• Click on the submit button.
• Your disability grant application status will be displayed to you on the screen.

If you are under 18 and you require permanent care due to disability issues, then your caregiver can apply for the SASSA Care Dependency grant. Some people don’t have an ID to provide an Affidavit as proof. Mention that you have applied from the Home Affairs Department.

You must also submit proof of the live certificate that you are still alive and ensure you receive grant money. It’s essential to submit the life certificate annually to the SASSA office.

Reasons for Lapsing of the Disability Grant

Here are some reasons why disability grants lapse.

• If you have passed away.
• You didn’t submit a life certificate annually.
• You didn’t receive your grant payment for the last three consecutive months.
• You are absent from South Africa for three months without any notice.
• You didn’t clear the SASSA means test because your financial status changed.
