Eligibility Criteria For SASSA War Veterans Grant

Before applying for the old age grant, follow the criteria below.

  • You should be a South African permanent resident or refugee.
  • Your age must be 60 or greater than it.
  • You are not receiving financial support from any other grants.
  • You have participated in the Second World War or Korean War.
  • You have to pass the SASSA means screening test.

How To Clear SASSA Means Test

If you want to clear the SASSA means test and ensure your eligibility for the SASSA War Veterans Grant then you need to make sure to follow the below criteria.

  • Assets Threshold: The single person’s assets should not be more than R1 372 800, and married combined assets should not exceed the limit of R2 745 600.
  • Income Threshold: The single person’s monthly income should not be higher than R8 070 per month, and the married person’s R16 140 per month. The yearly income of the single person should not exceed the limit of R96 840 and married person R193 680.

How To Apply For SASSA War Veterans Grant

You can apply for the War Veterans Grant in the South Africa SASSA office and online via the portal. I will recommend applying for this grant via the SASSA office. Let’s dive into how you can do it.

  • Visit the SASSA nearest office.
  • Request the SASSA representative that you want to apply for the SASSA War Veterans Grant.
  • SASSA agent will provide you with an application form.

  • You must show proof that you participated in the World War or Korean War.

Before going to the SASSA office, bring the following documents with you.

  • Proof of your service, e.g., certificate or service card.
  • Your original Identity Card.
  • If you don’t have an ID card, you must fill out the Affidavit. Showing other documents to prove your identity, such as Birth and School certificates, etc.
  • If you are disabled, you have to show proof of your disability, such as a disabled certificate.
  • Proof of the current address.
  • Proof of marital status, e.g., marriage certificate, Divorce certificate, etc.
  • Proof of your income and assets as a single or married person.

  1. You can check your SASSA application status through the SASSA official website.
  2. You can check your SASSA application status through the Moya App.
  3. Call the SASSA toll-free number  0800-601011 to check your application status.
  4. Contact the SASSA team through WhatsApp at 082-046-8553 and request the SASSA status check.
  5. Send an SMS to the SASSA at 082-046-8553 and request to check your application status.

Payment Methods For SASSA War Veterans Grant

When your War Veterans grant application has been approved, you will receive the payment from the date you applied. There are different methods to receive your grant funds.

  • Select Bank as a payment method to deposit your grant money into your bank account directly. 
  • You can withdraw your SASSA fund at cash-designated retailer points such as Pick-N-Pay, Usave, Boxer, Shoprite, etc.
  • You can receive your grant money at specific institutions such as old age homes, disability centers, etc.
