Monthly Stipend: The monthly stipend for individuals aged 75+ years will be R2105. If your age is below 75, you will receive RR1985. Veterans who have fought in the War will receive the payment from R2105 to R2005.

• If you are a single applicant, your monthly should not exceed the limit of R8 070 and yearly R96 840.
• For a married person, your combined monthly income should not exceed the limit of R16 140 and yearly R193 680.

How To Clear SASSA Means Test

The SASSA means test will evaluate your financial status, such as income and assets, and check other financial factors to determine your eligibility criteria.

You must pass the asset and income threshold criteria to clear the eligibility test.

• Assets Threshold: As a single person, the assets of the worth should not exceed the limit of R1 372 800, and as a married combined, assets should not exceed the limit of R2 745 600.
• Income Threshold: A single person’s earnings should not be more than R96 840, and a married person’s R193 680 per year.

You can apply for the SASSA Old Age grant at the nearest SASSA office. 

• Visit the SASSA at the nearest office.
• Request to the SASSA representative that you want to apply for the Old Age pension.
• SASSA representative will provide you with a form application.
• Fill out the application accordingly.
• If you need help filling out the form, ask for SASSA agent help.
• Bring all the necessary documents with you, such as an identity card, South Africa ID number, Phone number, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate of your space, and other legal documents.
• While entering the banking information in the form, make sure to enter it correctly to receive the payment on time.

If your SASSA application is disapproved, you may still need to pass the eligibility criteria. If you think you are eligible for the grant but mistakenly rejected my application, you can appeal it to the Minister of Social Development.

Review and Suspension of SASSA Older Person Grant

If you are getting the funds from SASSA Old Age pension grants, then SASSA may review your application based on your income. You will be notified to show the proof that you are still alive.

In my opinion, it’s the best option for the SASSA to review the beneficiary’s financial status, proof of being alive, etc. You have to submit the life certificate to the SASSA annually.

SASSA may suspend your grant due to the following reasons.

• Changes in your circumstance.
• Fraudulent activity.
• Your application is approved by mistake.
• Review outcomes.

The SASSA grant may cease due to the following reasons.

• You passed away.
• You are not available in the country of South Africa.
• You have not received your payment for three consecutive months.
• You are admitted to a state institution.

If you are admitted to the institutions of SASSA to take care of you, your grant amount may be reduced by 25% of the maximum amount. It will be reinstated again when you are discharged from the institution.
